For this week’s member spotlight, we caught up with Kelly Melnikova-Rhodes, Clinic Director of Kingston Chiropractic & Wellness Centre on Castle Street.
What was your experience of lockdown at Kingston Chiropractic & Wellness Centre?
“When we decided to close our doors in March, we did this very reluctantly, as a chiropractor, I want to help people, especially those in pain, and shutting my doors meant I wouldn’t be able to do that!
However we didn’t want to “feed” the problem, so we closed our doors for two months, during that time, honestly, I took a rest! Running a business is a 24/7 occupation, so I decided to view the time off as a gift and make the most of it.”
How has your business changed so far due to the pandemic?
“When we opened our doors on 1 June, our patients and members were very glad to have us back, it was so lovely to see people in person, to have face to face conversations! And so nice get to the business of helping people.
We are busier than ever, so many people working from home, on sofas and kitchen tables, lots of doing nothing on the sofa has taken its toll!
We were also able to keep everyone’s jobs, this was a real achievement, and we hired two massage therapists.”
What can people expect from Kingston Chiropractic going forward?
“We are always striving to provide the highest standard of care for our patients. We introduced extra measures to give peace of mind and keep everyone safe. We are all wearing the appropriate PPE, masks for the front desk team, the clinical team are wearing aprons and gloves when appropriate, and there’s lots of cleaning to keep us busy.”
What’s your message to other Kingston businesses and customers?
“I think one thing that came out of this for us was to support local business more, to spend our money with independent retailers has become a priority for us, from coffee at the market, to the awesome noodles at Namu. Small local business is a hard gig, but worth it!”
