For our latest member spotlight we caught up with John Mullan, international session stylist and owner of Stone Hair salon and Mr Mullan’s on Old London Road, to find out how he has been utilising lockdown and his plans for future projects.
With a trio of businesses under his belt, John has been busy during lockdown. With Stone Hair on pause, he has been working to deliver a brand new flagship lifestyle store adjacent to the salon; its new permanent location, having moved it from Soho back home to Kingston due to the pandemic.
“I am looking forward to bringing something new and unique to the community, and once restrictions are lifted I am excited to use the new space for gallery evenings and events that all of our customers can enjoy. With a selection of multiple brands all under one roof, the store offers a refreshing alternative to the high street with rare, hand-picked, globally sourced products, as well as my own range of ethical grooming and wellness products (Mr Mullan’s Apothecary), which includes natural skincare products, candles and incense, hand sanitiser and grooming tools inspired by my travels around the globe.”
With all products hand crafted in his private studio and the range continuing to grow, John’s focus has been on sourcing new ingredients, developing new fragrances and creating unique product ideas that he is eager to share with clients. He’s also been out on his motorbike helping local health store Food For Thought make deliveries: “it was great to see the smile on people’s faces when I turned up on my Harley with a fresh batch of supplies”.
As to what the future holds, John has a positive outlook and more than anything is looking forward to being back in the salon.
“I believe there will be more opportunities for independent businesses to thrive due to the big chains closing down. I hope to see more pop-ups, people sharing their creativity which they had the chance to perfect during lockdown and bring something new to the market.
I am eagerly awaiting to open Stone Hair Salon doors and get back to my usual business of cutting hair and making women look beautiful, I look forward to seeing you all in April when we launch the store and hopefully return to a bit more normality.”
