Local businesses across the South West London town of Kingston upon Thames have been coming together to support the NHS staff at Kingston Hospital, as they work hard in the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic.
FusionARTS, the local charity who provide art studio space for the creative community, worked with local artists across the borough to produce a beautiful selection of greeting cards for Kingston Hospital and St Georges Hospital Tooting. Hundreds of cards have been delivered to the hospitals, enabling NHS staff to send messages of condolence and support to families of the patients in their care during the pandemic.
A spokesperson for Kingston Hospital and St Georges Hospital Tooting commented: “On behalf of the patients and staff at South West London and St George’s Mental Health NHS Trust a big thank you FusionART for such a thoughtful and generous donation of these cards which we will use to support each other during this difficult time. It has made and will make a real difference.”
With government restrictions in place forcing restaurants across the town centre to close their doors to the public, many businesses are also using their spaces to supply food and drink to the communities essential workers. Chakra, the chic Indian restaurant located on Kingston’s idyllic riverside, have provided over 50 delicious meals each day to the NHS workers at Kingston Hospital. The authentic Turkish cuisine restaurant, Cappadocia have also been cooking up a storm at their Fife Road eatery delivering over 1,000 hot boxes to NHS workers to ensure they enjoy nutritious and substantial meals as they work hard to keep the local community safe.
Kirsten Henly, Chief Executive at Kingston First commented: “During these unprecedented circumstances, it is truly incredible to see local businesses selflessly supporting our NHS heroes, working together in the fight against coronavirus.”
Councillor Caroline Kerr, Leader of Kingston Council commented: “I feel incredibly proud to be part of such a community-led borough, with so many voluntary and community organisations working to look after our most vulnerable residents during COVID-19 (Coronavirus). If there is one thing we are not short of across our borough, it is generosity.”
