How to make your workplace Covid-secure

The press has recently reported that many businesses are working hard to make their businesses Covid-secure, but some are finding it difficult. As more of the town starts to open, keeping employees safe at work is hugely important for the success of your business during these difficult times.

We have gathered some information that you might find useful, if you are starting, or revisiting, this process.

The main areas to focus on according to the HSE are:

• Risk assessment: If you have already completed one you should review it to ensure it is still up to date
• Social distancing: Stick to 2 meters where possible, or 1 meter with risk mitigation
• Cleaning, hygiene and handwashing
• Ventilation and air conditioning
• Talk to workers and provide information: Everyone assesses risk differently, and some people will be more comfortable than others.  Ensure you consult with staff and make sure they are informed of your plans. Consider vulnerable staff, and any impacts of continuing to work from home.

Testing for Coronavirus for those without symptoms

If your workers cannot work from home, you may be eligible to register for the workplace testing scheme, this will enable you to order free lateral flow tests so that testing can happen in the workplace, or at the workers home, for those without Coronavirus symptoms. You must sign up by 12th April, even if you can’t test now or your business is currently closed, so that you are able to order tests in the future.

Kingston Council also offer testing centres for people without Coronavirus symptoms who have to leave home to work or volunteer. There are currently testing centres and pharmacies that offer this service, and you can book a time that suits you.
