Over the weekend, you will have seen the further devastating news announced by the government that Kingston has moved to Tier 4 as of Sunday 20 December.
All non-essential retail will have to close, including shops, hairdressers, barbers, nail bars and indoor entertainment venues. Further information can be found on the government’s website here. The measures will formally be reviewed on 30 December.
As far we understand no further financial support has been announced by the government but we will be providing updates for our businesses if anything changes. We will continue to campaign on behalf of sector needs including lobbying the government for extra financial support including, an extension to the business rates holiday, extending the VAT reduction scheme and pausing NI contributions for furloughed employees.
This news is another blow for our town centre and we will do all we can to support the town and our businesses in the coming days and weeks.
