The Prime Minister’s announcement of the four week lockdown, starting on 5 November, will be another devastating blow for so many businesses and the town centre, which was starting to build back confidence after the first lockdown. I have seen and heard from so many businesses and sectors in the past few weeks about the investments that have been made, the commitment to care for customers, clients and staff and changes to business operations to be in line with restrictions and on top of this the strain of fighting for your businesses and saving jobs.
We understand the need for significant measures to reduce the spread of Covid-19, however, it’s also vital for the short term survival of businesses across sectors and town centres, that the right level of financial support is in place. We want to hear from you about how this second lockdown is likely to impact your business. We will be sending out a short survey and will use this information to lobby for your interests, including any additional financial support at a local and national level. In particular, we are calling for the extension of the 2020/21 business rates holiday into 2021/22 and further measures to support businesses in paying rents.
