An exciting new award to recognise the role of local traders is attracting huge interest from Kingston’s vital independent retailing community.
Kingston Business Excellence Awards in association with Willmott Dixon have introduced the new Love Your Local Retailer category for 2019, along with awards for the Best Financial & Professional Services Business and the Best Business for Tech & Innovation.
Applications are currently being invited from all businesses across the borough before the closing date of Friday, 28th June at 5pm. To enter visit: www.kingstonawards.co.uk
The new Love Your Local Trader award, the first to involve a public vote, has already won the support of the owners of the 2018 Kingston Independent Retailer of the Year, Wags N Tales. Rajal Tank – pictured above with husband Parvin – co-owner of the popular independent coffee bar and kitchen in Surbiton, said the category is a great idea.
“We were thrilled to be winners – being recognised amongst hundreds of other businesses, validated our concept, our hard work and passion,” said Rajal. “We strongly encourage any and all businesses thinking about applying to enter.”
Rajal and her husband Parvin picked up another two category awards last year including Best Business for Hospitality and Food Excellence and Best Marketing Campaign. Rajal added: “Winning the Awards reaffirmed the pride our team take in providing exceptional food, drink and service. Our customers were delighted for us and sent a lot of well wishes. Whether you are finalists or winners, the experience will be well worth it. During the application process, we re-affirmed our strengths and weaknesses as a business and that was invaluable self-reflection.”
After the closing date – Friday, 28th June – a shortlist will be drawn up for the next round of judging. Independent judges will decide on the winners, although there is a chance this year for the public to vote in the Love Your Local Retailer category.
The overall winners will be exclusively announced at the Gala Dinner, hosted by TV presenter Michael Underwood, at prestigious Ravens Ait on the Thames on Thursday, 10th October 2019.
Organised in partnership with Kingston Chamber of Commerce, the Royal Borough of Kingston, and Kingston First, the awards celebrate the successes and achievements of Kingston’s vibrant business community. It is free and easy-to-enter online through the Home page of this website.
