With a range of Kingston council grants out there covering different business types and periods of local restrictions, we’ve been receiving questions from businesses seeking clarity on the grants and when the payments will be made. Read on for an update on grants and a summary of payments due.
There will be some business who are not yet covered by the current grants. The intention from the Council is to pick up on those not yet supported and broaden the scheme in the coming weeks, so retail or shop-based businesses not required to close but severely impacted may be included in next iteration. We will provide updates as we hear more information from the Council, and when a decision is made.
Tier 2 Restrictions Repeat Grant Payments
Repeat grant payments covering the second period of Tier 2 restrictions between 2 and 15 December 2020 are ongoing and are due to be paid this week. Only hospitality and leisure businesses and those in their supply chains qualify for grants during Tier 2 restrictions.
Tier Impact Grants and National Lockdown Grant Payments
Businesses who have made a claim for any of the Tier Impact Grants and/or the National Lockdown grants can expect to receive both the one-off payment and fortnightly payments in one go before the end of the month. This payment covers the six-week period 5 January – 15 February 2021, and includes the “Closed Business Lockdown Payment” and 3 fortnightly “LRSG(closed)Addendum” payments, with the amount paid being based on the rateable value band of the business. In total, businesses should receive the following:
Rateable Value less than £15k = £6,001
Rateable Value more than £15k but less than £51k = £9,000
Rateable Value more than £51k = £13,500
Tier 3 and Tier 4 Grant Payments
At the same time, the council are making payments to eligible businesses for the 4 days we were in Tier 3 restrictions 16 – 19 December and the 16 days that we were in Tier 4 restrictions 20 December – 4 January. The rollout of these payments started this week.
Business Restrictions Hardship Grant
The Business Restrictions Hardship Grant is now live and accepting applications. It is aimed at smaller independent businesses (including market traders) in sectors most impacted by restrictions and closures, that have not been covered by other support.
The council are urging all businesses who are unsure if they will qualify or not, to submit a claim for Business Restrictions Hardship Grant. The only way to be completely sure whether you qualify or not, is to make a claim. If during the co
urse of the rollout of this scheme qualifying criteria change, Kingston Council will review the applications of claimants who have been told they do not qualify.
You can apply for a Business Restrictions Hardship Grant here.
Grant applications and whether you need to reapply for further grants
If you have not yet applied for any grants, find the full details here. Make sure you read through everything thoroughly so you know what is needed for the application. You can apply for the local restrictions and National Lockdown grants here.
If you have already applied for the 2nd National Lockdown Grant and/or the ‘Tier 2 Impact Grant’, you do not need to reapply for subsequent Tier 3 or Tier 4 impact grants (or for the 3rd lockdown grant for closed businesses). These will be paid automatically.
If you have not applied for the ‘Tier 2’ restrictions grant, or the 2nd National Lockdown Grant, you will need to apply for the other tiered grants and the 3rd Lockdown grant.
